Day 761 New York Feb 16, 2009 - 19.54hrs

We are back in New York after a 3 weeks stay in Hannover, Germany.

Today we went to mass and the Gospel reading was about the leper who asked Jesus to heal him. What struck me was the way he made the request " Jesus, if you wish, you can heal me". And the priest in his sermon asked "why did the leper said "Jesus, if you wish...". Did he doubt in the capacity of Jesus to heal him? Surely not, since he asked. Would Jesus refuse to heal him? And Jesus, instead of answering immedaitely did the unexpected: He touched the leper - a gesture that was allowed then - to reach out to the leper as a sign to the leper that he is again part of community. In the days of Jesus, lepers were not allowed to live among the community. Then Jesus said "I do wish to heal you".

Take way: How many times Jesus has been touching us and yet, we did not noticed. And how many times have we missed the opportunity of being the person through whom Jesus could have touched another person?
