We are checking out of the Hufeland Clinic for a week of break with the children who are arriving tomorrow.
Nicole is feeling well.
Carpe Diem.
Keep us in your prayers.
Praise the Lord for His Blessings.

Bad Mergentheim May 26, 2009 - 21.10 hrs
We met and had a long conversation with Dr Demuth. He is not worried about the rise in the CA 125 reading. He would like to wait for another 14 days to see the effects of the new treatment. Nicole will have another dose of low chemotherapy under low blood sugar condition tomorrow. Then she will have a break of one week. We shall be checking out of the clinic and stay in a hotel nearby. Bertrand, Nicolas and family and Greg are joining us here on Saturday to spend time with us during the break. Nicole and I are looking forward to this "holiday" together. We shall be back at Hufeland on Monday Morning of June 8 for a blood test and further treatment.
Carpe Diem. Let us live life fully. Praise to God for His Blessings.

Day 860 - Bad Mergentheim - May 26, 2009 - 10.55 hrs
We are still at Hufeland Clinic. Nicole started a new therapy. This consists of lowering her blood sugar level to below 40 reading and then administer a mild form of chemotherapy. She has been doing this during the last two weeks. She had a CA 125 test yesterday. Unfortunately this new treatment does not seem to be working. The CA 125 increased from 140 to 190, a jump of 30%.
We are going to meet with Dr Demuth. It is most likely that he will change his approach.
In my opinion, Nicole has a very virulent form of cancer. This was mentioned to us at the start of her illness. In addition, the aggressive chemotherapy administered earlier might have caused the cancer cells to developed resistance to treatment. Thus the pancreatic enzymes are not being as effective as they would be and Dr Gonzalez cannot explain why the cancer is progressing even with his treatment. The same thing seems to be occurring here. The treatment at Hufeland is working with other patients. We are seeing patients leaving the clinic with much improvement in their conditions.
During our last meeting with Dr Demuth, he mentioned that, being a patient here, Nicole needs to be patient. She needs to give her body time to start the healing process.
Nicole is of opinion to continue treatment here as there is no other alternative. Dr Gonzalez would not offer any new approach. She does not want to have intensive chemotherapy as this will destroy her immune system.

Day 847 Bad Mergentheim May 13, 2009 - 11.40 hrs
We just finished our meeting with Dr Demuth. The CA 125 is up from 107.2 to 141.3 or by 40%. This confirms that the mistletoe treatment was not working as seen from the allergy reaction of Nicole when she last had the mistletoe infusion.
Dr Demuth is changing the treatment to low dose of a chemotherapy drug - trofosfamide. This is administered after having reduced the sugar level in the blood to 30-40 range. According to Dr Demuth, this usually works in controling the growth of cancer cells.
The clinic is trying to get the drugs to start treatment tomorrow, If not then it will be on Monday. The treatment is followed by whole body hyperthemia, which increases the effectiveness of the treatment.
Of course we are disappointed with this news and set back. We take it as it comes, knowing that cancer is a complex medical condition and so much is still unknown. We are comforted knowing that the clinic is treating many cancer patients successfully. We see patients leaving this place in much better conditions than those when they arrived.
Finally God knows what is best for us. We are being asked to trust God.

Day 845 bad Mergentheim May 11, 2009 - 8.50 hrs
After a quiet eek-end, Nciole is ready to continue her treatment. She has a blood test today. Hopefully we shall see an improvement in the CA markers.
She has started to follow a new diet developed by Dr. Johanna Budwig. She starts her day with a glass of sauerkraut guide. It has a salty but good taste. For breakfast, she has a mixture of quark ( somewhat like cottage cheese but more liquid) and flaxseed oil - one to one ratio, some yogurt, spelt, pumpkin and sun floer seeds, fresh fruits cut in pieces and some jam. This gives a nice mixture for breakfast.
Seize the day. Praise to God.

Day 842 Bad Mergentheim May 8, 2009 - 16.10hrs
Nicole had a mistletoe infusion today. However, her immune system reacted strongly producing rashes over her entire body. The doctor had to do another infusion to flush out the mistletoe. She thus spent her entire day in the infusion room. It is likely that Nicole is still under the effect of the bacteria infection she contracted since last Sunday. Dr Demuth is of opinion that Nicole's system is unable to get rid of all the toxins that are being produced as a result of the treatment. The immune system is destroying a lot of cancer cells and Nicole's system cannot get rid of them fast enough.
Dr Demuth is going to slow down the pace of the treatment and do some detox.
This is going to make our stay longer, maybe until May 30/31.
We take this latest development as a positive sign. We are encouraged to see many patients here who are showing signs of improvements. One patient has been treated here since 1997. She is back for a "servicing". Two patients have their their CA markers down by 40%. Nicole will have a blood test for the CA markers on Monday.
Dr Demuth is recommending a week end rest for Nicole.

Day 841 Germany May 7, 2009 - 13.55hrs
Nicole is feeling better since this morning. She was able to eat breakfast and lunch. She has resumed her treatment at Hufeland clinic.
She tried a breakfast according to Dr Johanna Budwick recipe. It tasted good and gave her much needed energy. We came across this recipe in talking to patients who are being treated here.
I am so glad there was nothing serious developing.
Thank God and praise the Lord.
Live one day at a time.

All the best to Nicole and Maurice. The photos are very nice and Nicole is a goodlooking woman and seems so "sympathique".
Kind regards

Day 840 Bad Mergentheim MAy 6, 09 - 13.30 hrs
Nicole has not been feeling well since Sunday May 3. We thought she had indigestion but she has not been able to hold any food since Sunday. She rejects any food or liquid as soon as she ate or drank. The doctor has been giving her some medication and intravenous injection with no improvement in her conditions. Dr Demuth did an ultrasound exam but could not find anything wrong. Nicole is currently having another intravenous injection. She was examined by a doctor this morning.
I hope there is nothing serious and that this might be just an infection. Nicole is not receiving any treatment for the cancer as she needs to get well first.
