Last Nicole had a CT scan,
The CT scan showed that Nicole's liver is clear with no sign of any tumor. The thickness of uterus lining has decreased from 30 mm to 8 mm.
However, the CT scan shows the tumor has become larger and is abutting the rectum, which caused Dr. Wong to be concerned.
Dr. Gonzalez interpreted the results in a more positive way. He is encouraged by the good news concerning the liver and thinning of the uterus lining.
According to Dr. Gonzalez, the pancreatic enzymes attack the cancer cells in the tumor causing it to swell initially. At the same time, there will be an increase of the number of cancer cells in the blood which produces an increase in the cancer marker readings.
In fact, we saw an increase in the cancer marker readings at the last blood test. Now we are seeing the swelling of the tumor.
The reassuring fact is the decrease in the cancer marker reading from the hair analysis done after 3 months of treatment. The reading dropped from 27 to 24. A cancer free person has a reading of 10 or lower.
It was indeed a trying period for us as we did not fully understand what was happening. There is always a small lingering doubt that the alternative treatment might not be working.
Nicole and I have chosen to take the road less traveled.
We constantly pray the Holy Spirit to guide us and our doctors in deciding the course of treatment for Nicole.
This latest development tested our faith in God and as Nicole remarked, these last few days gave us the opportunity to recenter our life and refocus on our life priorities. We were losing sight of our True North. Hopefully we shall let ourselves be guided by our Lord during our journey.
