While we all try to be @ peace with the recent setback, I would like to share a book that I read recently.
On 19 Dec 2006, I bought a book at the airport before boarding the plane to Paris for holidays. It makes me wonder why I still bought it when I already had an interesting book in my hand luggage. You can call it concidence or you may have different interpretations of this.
Anyway, the title of the book is "Chasing daylight" which gives the final account of Eugene O'Kelly. He was 53 years old, Chairman and CEO of KPMG. He had a very successful career and he was thinking ahead for his next business trip, weekend plans with his wife, etc, when he was diagnosed with late-stage brain cancer and was given 3 to 6 months to live.
He said in the very first line of his book, "I was blessed. I was told I had three months to live". Further, he mentioned again ( a couple of times) that he was a lucky guy and he hoped to make it a positive experience for those around him, as well as the best months of his life.
Indeed, it is probably the least we wanted to hear for matante Nicole and family. However, this also comes as a reminder for us to embrace the fragile, fleeting moments of our lives - the time we have with our family, our friends, and even ourselves.
I would like to end by sharing another extract from the book: "It is an eloquent confirmation that our lives and the people in them are temporay joys, but the time we spend enjoying them is never lost. And if we conquer our fears-even the fear of facing the end of our lives and leaving behind those we love-we can conquer everything. "
Carpe Diem! Seize the day!
